Wednesday, 8 July, 7:00-8:00 pm

The Union Station Foundation and WSU Alumni Jazz present METRO in Jazz at the Station live-streamed from Ogden’s Union Station, Wednesday, 8 July, 7-8 pm. The live stream will be on unionstationogden.com. It will also be on the YouTube channel UtahVOD.

Jazz at the Station has been on a three-month Pandemic hiatus. Our community has jazz musicians that need to be heard. At this time, live-streaming is the answer. It will be available to everyone with Internet access. We are proud to present METRO as our first live-streamed program.

METRO organizer Desean Bryan was born and raised in Harlem, New York. He is currently a junior Musical Performance major at WSU, where he performs with the WSU Jazz Ensemble and a WSU Jazz Combo. He started METRO in June 2018, including jazz friends he met at WSU. METRO was the featured entertainment at the 2018 Ogden Mayor’s Awards in the Arts Celebration. They were also a headliner at the 2019 Heritage Jazz Festival in conjunction with the Heritage 150 Celebrations in Ogden.

Metro bass player, Daniel Tracy, can’t wait to share his music. “To me jazz and playing music is about living in the moment, and in the time of stress that this is, it has been a great relief to find time to play music with my friends.”

Program producer, Caril Jennings, says ”At this time, we feel responsible to find a way to continue with our programming that does not expose our audience to harm. Right now, the best way, the safest way, is to stay home and enjoy it with your family, or have a watch party with your friends. We will continue with live programming when we know we can keep our jazz fans safe.”

Janae Francis, Union Station Foundation spokesperson, says “At this time of increasing cultural understanding and appreciation, Union Station Foundation will continue to provide to the community at no charge, this highly acclaimed series of music from an African-American influence. For the time being, audiences can now enjoy all that Jazz from the comfort of their own homes. A genre also noted for dancing, no dance floor is needed for those who can dance along in the privacy of their own spaces.”

Jazz at the Station is sponsored by the Union Station Foundation, WSU Alumni Jazz, and grants from R.A.M.P., and Ogden City Arts. They are also sustained by donations from the audience jazz family.

Children are welcome as long as they do not disturb the performers or other audience members. Come early to make sure you have a seat. Jazz at the Station usually performs for standing-room-only audiences.

Performances are funded in part by R.A.M.P., Ogden City Arts, and donations from our fans.
